In this position you will be exposed to some of the most high-tech welding and fabricating tools used in the industry. You will learn new and more advanced methods for fabrication, and you will be able to help support Mid-City Steel’s vision of delivering products of the highest quality to our customers! Job responsibilities include but are not limited to;

 

  • Operate fabrication shop machinery and equipment.
  • Read job information sheets (JIS) to attain expected results.
  • Accurately measure work-piece dimensions based on blueprint specifications.
  • Remove burrs and sharp edges from work-piece.
  • Read and understand blueprints.
  • Verify final piece meets quality expectations for job.
  • Report or record completed items through remote link.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervision.

 

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or a GED equivalent
  • At least one year of experience in fabrication, OR
  • Comparable record of equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job.
  • Ability to comprehend blueprints and work specifications
  • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds or more
  • Must be able to pass the welder qualification test as required by the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code.

Material Handler

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary/Objective                                 

The material handler operates industrial trucks or tractors equipped to move materials around a warehouse, storage yard, production facility, construction site, or similar location.

 

Essential Functions

  • Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams with swivel-hooks, hoists, or elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, or stack material.

  • Manually or mechanically load or unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms or other transport vehicles.

Machine Operator

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary/Objective                                 

The machine operator controls specific steel processing equipment at work centers including, a saw/drill, a coping robot, a plasma table and/or a clipper

 

Essential Functions

  • Operate steel processing equipment to support fabrication.
  • Detect and report defective material or questionable conditions to the shift supervisor.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Must be able to perform, but not limited to, the following tasks: operate machinery, read drawings, perform quality checks, update inventory movements through remote link, and read and follow job information sheet (JIS) instructions.
  • Must be familiar with the basic machine functions in order to perform the tasks stated above.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to machine setup.

Summary/Objective

                                 

The painter operates spray painting and sandblasting equipments to apply protective coatings and paints to various fabricated steel material.

 

Essential Functions

  • Select the appropriate paint or mix paints according to a predetermined formula.
  • Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare fabricated steel items for application of paint and or other protective coatings.
  • Operate spray, dip or flow coating equipment or other painting or product coating equipment as required.
  • Paint small items and apply touch-ups.
  • Clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment.
  • Prepare and apply stencils, computer generated decals and tags on the finished products.
  • Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams with swivel-hooks, hoists, or elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, or stack material.

The sandblaster operates blasting equipment to meet blast profiles per project specifications.

 

Essential Functions

  • Abrade surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust or dirt and imparts specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment.

  • Load parts on wagons or racks in enclosed rooms.
  • Regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle.
  • Manually direct nozzle over surface of large parts or insert arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulate small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
  • Examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Read job information sheets (JIS) to attain expected results.
